Do You Have Multiple Sclerosis?

Setting Expectations

In order to determine if a person suffers from Multiple-sclerosis (MS) or not, Drs. need to run several tests. Those symptoms that are found in MS patients are not unique to people with MS, thus it is possible for a person to be misdiagnosed.

Since the testing process is much more complicated than taking simple blood test, it is important for people who might possibly suffer from MS and their loved ones who are going through it to know just what they can expect during the testing period.

Multiple Sclerosis Tests

  • Neurological Examination – This consists of the doctor asking the patient a series of questions, while monitoring their emotional condition during the testing. This helps them determine whether or not the patient might suffer from mental problems due to Multiple-sclerosis.
  • Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) – Images from an MRI machine allow a doctor to view the inside of a person’s head. They provide images that X-rays, CT scans, and ultrasounds cannot see. The images an MRI provides allows doctors to look for signs of MS.
  • Lumbar Puncture/ Spinal Tap – This consists of inserting a needle between the two lumbar bones in order to sample the cerebral spinal fluid, which protects the spinal cord and brain from damage. This test allows doctors to determine whether or not the level of a patient’s cerebral spinal fluid are normal or not.
  • Evoked Potential Testing – Electrodes that are taped to the head are used to record brain waves. The purpose of this test is to measure nerves response time to stimulation. This is determined by visual, auditory, and somatosensory tests to reveal neural abnormalities, as well as abnormalities in the spinal cord and the optic nerves of the eye.

After Multiple Sclerosis Testing

Depending on the outcome of the testing, you may have to make one of the most important decisions of your life. Neurologists are great at diagnosing, but when it comes to treating, while they are well-meaning, they often simply guess based on trial and error methods of simply prescribing medications to patients.

Over the last five or six decades, head and neck injuries have been linked to many cases of Multiple-Sclerosis. The common cause in both types of injuries are upper neck misalignments, which is why it’s important to have a thorough evaluation of your upper neck. This will determine if chronic cerebral spinal venous insufficiency related to an upper neck misalignment may be the culprit for many if not all of your MS symptoms.
