Finding the Reason for Migraines in Renton, WA

Migraines are not supposed to happen. While the exact cause is unknown, what is known is that they transpire because something in the brain is not functioning properly. Often this is due to a change in the flow of blood to the tissue that surrounds the brain or cerebrospinal fluid drainage issues.  

What can cause this to occur? Often a misalignment in the upper cervical spine, particularly the C1 and C2 vertebrae that are supposed to protect the brainstem, is the cause. If the misalignment is putting pressure or stress on the brainstem, communication throughout the body is affected.

Some common things may trigger a migraine. It is important for each individual to recognize what these are. A good way to do this is by keeping a headache journal. Record everything you did before and after a migraine including the weather conditions, foods eaten, activities performed, and anything else that may have contributed to the onset of a headache.   • Smoke – 1st or 2nd hand
  • Loud noises
  • Physical exercise or stress
  • Skipping meals
  • Bright lights
  • Changes in sleep habits
  • Perfume or other strong smells
  • Changes in hormone levels due to menstrual cycles or birth control
  • Alcohol
  • Caffeine withdrawal
  • Anxiety and stress

  • Nuts and seeds, including peanuts
